A general marketplace that happens to cover the MCAT
Varsity Tutors is a tutoring marketplace spanning hundreds of subjects, and the MCAT is one of them. That single fact explains nearly everything else about the product: the flexible scheduling, the wide availability, the unpublished pricing, and the variability in who you actually get.
Pricing is quoted per student after a consultation. Their site also returns nothing useful to automated checking, so we cannot give you a range we would stand behind, and we would rather say that than invent one.
Matching, scheduling, and what is missing
You get matched to a tutor, a smooth booking process, and genuinely flexible scheduling. That is what a marketplace model is good at and it should not be undersold: if your constraint is finding somebody free when you are, this solves it.
What you do not get is specialisation. A tutor sourced from a general marketplace may be an excellent teacher of biology without being fluent in how the MCAT tests biology, and those are different skills. The exam rewards recent first-hand familiarity with its own logic more than most tests do.
Full-length exams are purchased separately, and at MCAT level those are not optional. Add that to the total when you compare this against an all-in package.

Students who come to us from Varsity Tutors tend to describe the same thing: a tutor who was capable in general and not fluent in the MCAT in particular. Sessions that felt like competent teaching of the subject rather than coaching for the exam.
We are not attaching a number to this. Varsity Tutors appears in our archive too rarely to support one, and a statistic built on a handful of conversations would imply a confidence we do not have. The consistency of the description is what makes it worth reporting, not the volume.

Where it makes sense, and where it does not
It suits a scheduling problem. If you need somebody at unusual hours, or across more than one subject, a marketplace beats a specialist.
Interview for the MCAT specifically. Ask when they sat it, what they scored by section, and how they would attack a CARS passage cold. A general marketplace cannot guarantee those answers, so the vetting is your job.
